Delusions of Grandeur [Nov. 7th, 2009|10:04 pm]
[mood |geeky]

If you hadn't heard , the Hadron Collider in Switzerland has had yet another setback. A bird dropped a piece of a baguette into part of the machine, causing it to overheat.

This really only requires one comment: "You are required to maneuver straight down this trench ..."

Nolan's next Batman villain ... Catwoman! [Aug. 26th, 2009|06:54 pm]
[mood |nerdy]

The Sun is reporting that Megan Fox (Mikaela in Transformers) will star as Catwoman in the next Batman movie. I'm looking forward to the promotional shots of her costume ....

But geez, people, get it straight - Halle Berry WAS NOT THE DC COMICS CATWOMAN!

Zachary Quinto was literally unable to form the Vulcan salute, and had to resort to gluing his fingers together to form the "V".

HELL YEAH! [Apr. 14th, 2009|07:49 pm]
[mood | ecstatic]

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

I don't always agree with Gov. Perry, but this time he gets it right.

"Admiral Adama" criticizes the UN [Mar. 20th, 2009|09:27 pm]
[mood |geeky]

Edward James Olmos reacts to the use of the word "race" at a Battlestar Galatica panel at the UN, attending by 100-200 high school students. Mid-speech he shifts into being the Admiral and ends it with getting the crowd to chant "So say we all!"

Heroes Volume 4: "Fugitives" [Dec. 16th, 2008|11:55 pm]
[mood |geeky]

If you haven't been keeping up with Heroes, they've got a little tradition going. Every season/volume has a major Star Trek actor/actress play a highly visible role - not counting Zachary Quinto (Sylar) who's made the jump in the other direction playing the young Spock in the new movie.

Season 1 - George Takei (Sulu), as Nakamura Kaito (Hiro's father)
Season 2 - Nichelle Nichols (Uhura), as Nana Dawson (D.L.'s mother/Micah's grandmother)
Season 3 - George Takei, reprising as Kaito

and now ....

Season 3.5/4 - Michael Dorn, currently unnamed President of the US

"Worf" joins the Heroes cast for the next storyline, beginning Feb 2!

Macy's rickrolls itself [Nov. 28th, 2008|08:00 pm]
[mood |nerdy]

If you didn't watch the Macy's parade yesterday, they rick-rolled themselves - on one of the Cartoon Network floats about halfway through the parade started a (horrid) song, then Rick Astley walked out from hiding and sang "Never Gonna Give You Up".

Here's the clip on YouTube.

TV sports trends suck [Nov. 24th, 2008|07:57 pm]
[mood | disappointed]

I just checked on the A&M vs. Texas game to see which channel was airing the game - and it turns out to be ESPN HD.

The one game I planned to watch this season, and I don't have access to the channel. Cable/satellite is just out of our budget right now as we try to get the cards back under control, so we're still stuck on the antenna broadcast (with a HD converter box now).

If the broadcast network channels really want to be competitive again, the corporate offices need to stop moving most of the events that WILL have an audience to the pay-for-access realm.

Juvenile Deliquency [Oct. 25th, 2008|06:03 pm]
[mood | pissed off]

Some jackass stole the McCain/Palin sign out of my yard either overnight or this morning. We know from a neighbor that several of the neighborhood teenagers have been vandalizing all the signs on our block (which are all Republican or conservative themed).

I wouldn't be quite so upset except that this sign was one my parents brought back with them from when Dad was a delegate alternate for Texas at the National Republican Convention. This was a little piece of family history that I was looking forward to keeping.

Terry Goodkind now on TV! [Oct. 23rd, 2008|06:34 pm]
Just found out about this from a co-worker today. Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novels are being adapted to a TV series that starts November 1 - Legend of the Seeker. There is a 10-minute clip of the opening of the series on the website.

I've got all but the last of the book series, and it is an awesome read. Even with the edits I know they will have to make, it should convert well to the small screen.

The ineveitable Presidential meme [Sep. 5th, 2008|07:16 pm]
Not that this should surprise anyone.

Your Issue Profile: 4% Obama, 96% McCain

The results are in, and John McCain is definitely your choice.

You're probably not surprised. It's possible you've had your eye on McCain for years.

Popular or not, you will likely stick by McCain. For you, it's a matter of principle.

And besides, there's something exciting about rooting for the underdog!

In truth, I was going to very grudgingly vote for McCain (who is in no way a Conservative, whatever he claims) until he announced Gov. Palin as his running mate. For the first time since this election cycle, I'm actually looking forward to voting.
